Top Rated Things To Do At The Great Barrier Reef
Are you looking for more adventurous things to do at the Great Barrier Reef? Why not add a helicopter to your day out? Seriously, taking to the sky is one of the best ways to experience the reef and its other world-famous attractions.
With Nautilus Adventure, you have a range of unique experiences all waiting to be ticked off your bucket list. Here are just some of our favourite things to do at the Great Barrier Reef.
1. Daintree River Fishing
Combine a scenic helicopter flight with unforgettable fishing on the Daintree River. You’ll be transported from Cairns or Port Douglas in an air-conditioned helicopter that captures incredible views of the Daintree, reef and river along the way.
After you land, it’s time for fishing. Four hours of fishing along the Daintree River to be exact. During this time you have the chance to reel in monster queenfish, barramundi, mangrove jack, javelin grunter and golden trevally. You might also catch stingrays, flathead, archerfish and perch. The croc-safe fishing vessel is also ideal for spotting the river’s reptilian inhabitants.
Who wants to play golf when you can play heligolf? This is easily one of Australia’s most scenic heligolf experiences. It captures bird’s-eye scenes of Palm Cove, Double Island, 4-Mile Beach and Port Douglas on the flight to the challenging 18-hole course at Mirage Country Club.
The course in question has been designed by five-time British Open winner, Peter Thompson, and features a blend of par three, four and five holes surrounded by palm trees. There’s even a signature aquatic driving range. You also won’t believe how close the Coral Sea and Daintree Rainforest are to the fairways.
As part of this memorable golfing experience, you have access to motorised golf carts and Callaway and Titleist hire clubs. It ends with a delicious lunch at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort’s Lagoon House.
3. World Heritage Highlights Tour
If you can’t decide what you want to see on the Great Barrier Reef, we recommend the World Heritage Highlight Tour. This is an all-encompassing reef and rainforest experience with a scenic flight, river cruise and 4WDing tour.
It begins with a scenic helicopter flight over the Great Barrier Reef with a knowledgeable pilot. Keep your eyes peeled for famous reefs, turtles, dolphins and schools of fish. After the flight, you’ll venture down the Daintree River looking for crocodiles, birds and endemic plants.
From boat to 4WD, your next stop is the breath-taking Alexandra Range Lookout, before learning about the Daintree’s diverse flora and fauna on a guided boardwalk tour. After a delicious lunch at a local cafe, you can swim in the pristine Emmagen Creek and witness rainforest meeting reef at Cape Tribulation Beach. One last stop for homemade ice cream is the cherry on top of this incredible day out.
